The NHTSA Version 2.1 XSD is currently in use within many EMS data systems based on the NHTSA Version 2.1 standard. This is considered to be an acceptable method to collect and transmit EMS data. It is recommended that all EMS data systems migrate to the 2.2.1 standard to better take advantage of the NHTSA EMS data standard and to incorporate the new CMS Condition Codes and National Provider Identifier requirements.
